MEET THE OWNER

What inspired you to start this business?

The short answer: Mother Angelica. The story of The Station of the Cross started in January 1996 when my wife (Joanne) and I, along with Mary Ellen Capece Nichols, visited EWTN in Birmingham, AL. Through the grace of God, we ended up on a retreat with Mother Angelica, the foundress of EWTN. After her talk, Mother told us EWTN was launching an AM/FM satellite and encouraged us to consider starting a Catholic radio station in our hometown of Buffalo, NY. Although we had no radio or media experience, we were open to this possibility and prayed for guidance. Meanwhile Mother Angelica had been asking radio station owners to sell their station to Catholic buyers. Her prayers were answered. A radio station owner informed her that he is interested in selling his station in Buffalo, NY (most certainly a God-incidence, not a coincidence). Joanne and I received a call from EWTN about this opportunity and we said “Yes”!

How does your faith shape your work?

My Catholic faith, and the faith of all who work at The Station of the Cross, is the driving force behind the entire operation of our apostolate, permeating everything we do. I strive to ensure that every one of our radio programs is completely faithful to the teachings of the Church Magisterium.

What's a favorite patron saint or scripture?

My favorite saint is our Blessed Mother and my favorite devotion is the rosary. My favorite Bible verse is “If you love me you will keep my commandments” (John 14: 15).

What's one thing you'd like customers to know?

From its founding in 1999 until the present, The Station of the Cross has been a strong voice for upholding the Catholic Church’s teachings, traditional values, and the defense of life. The network’s motto is “Proclaiming the fullness of truth with clarity and charity.” All of the work of The Station of the Cross centers on fidelity to Truth. We are committed to providing listeners with programs that are faithful to the magisterial teachings of the Catholic Church, which are rooted in the Church’s two-thousand year tradition and are elucidated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. While educating listeners about the Catholic Faith, The Station of the Cross has also been at the forefront of the cultural battles. Both the religious and cultural components are essential to its mission. Our clients are our listeners. We have received countless testimonials from listeners whose lives were changed by The Station of the Cross. Many of them came back to the Catholic Church and the sacraments after being away for years or even decades. An overwhelming number of people have told us that their knowledge of the Faith has grown significantly. Some reported that listening to our programs helped them to heal wounds, restore their marriage, develop a stronger prayer life, and more. We have even received testimonials from prisoners who were able to reform their lives and develop a relationship with Our Lord after listening to The Station of the Cross in prison.
