What inspired you to start this business?

Lux Blox grew out of our shared love of building, creativity, and hands-on learning. We both grew up watching our fathers, who were carpenters, build houses and work with their hands. From an early age, we developed an appreciation for craftsmanship, structure, design, and the satisfaction of creating something real. As homeschool parents ourselves, we became deeply interested in how children learn best through direct experience, creativity, and exploration. While studying the original “Gifts” of Friedrich Froebel’s first kindergartens, we were inspired by the idea that simple building materials could help children better understand pattern, geometry, beauty, nature, and the structure of the world around them. That journey led us to create Lux Blox — a more open-ended and dynamic construction system designed to encourage imagination, problem solving, engineering, and wonder through hands-on discovery. Our hope has always been to give children and families a meaningful alternative to passive entertainment and to help cultivate curiosity, creativity, and joyful learning together.

How does your faith shape your work?

Like many small family businesses, our journey with Lux Blox has included both blessings and challenges. Building a company from the ground up requires perseverance, sacrifice, and faith — especially during difficult seasons when the future feels uncertain. Our Catholic faith has helped keep us grounded throughout that journey. We regularly pray for wisdom, guidance, and the assistance of the Holy Spirit as we continue growing Lux Blox and sharing it with families, schools, and communities. We believe meaningful work should ultimately serve others, and we are grateful for the many unexpected ways Lux Blox has positively impacted people’s lives. One of the greatest blessings has been hearing from families, therapists, and members of the autism community who discovered that Lux Blox could help children engage, focus, create, and learn in unique and meaningful ways. Experiences like these remind us that our work is not simply about making products, but about contributing something genuinely good and life-giving to the world. As a family, we try to approach our work with gratitude, humility, and trust in God’s providence. We continue to pray for the wisdom to use our gifts well, to serve others faithfully, and to build something that encourages creativity, wonder, learning, and human connection.

What's one thing you'd like customers to know?

Lux Blox helps children and adults learn by building. Our modular construction system encourages hands-on exploration of geometry, engineering, creativity, problem solving, and structural thinking through open-ended play and learning. We serve homeschool families, teachers, makerspaces, libraries, STEM programs, and parents seeking meaningful alternatives to passive screen time. Our goal is to help people better understand how things connect, move, balance, and hold together — while cultivating curiosity, confidence, and wonder. Many families and educators tell us that Lux Blox helps children become more creative, focused, patient, and confident. Teachers use Lux Blox to make abstract concepts tangible and engaging, while homeschool parents appreciate how the system encourages independent exploration and family learning. We have also seen Lux Blox used successfully in libraries, robotics programs, therapy settings, and collaborative maker environments where students learn not just technical skills, but teamwork, resilience, and problem solving.
