MEET THE OWNER
What inspired you to start this business?
It was my father who was inspired to start this company for three reasons: their names are John, Alex, and Nathan. He placed his three boys in Catholic schools from K-12, and he wanted reassurance that our schools were as safe as possible. He knew the physical, financial, and even psychological liability a bad hire poses to a client.
How does your faith shape your work?
We strive for integrity, honesty, and excellence in everything we do. We treat our clients with the respect we would want, and we do not tolerate doing business with blatantly immoral companies. As an example, a local Planned Parenthood approached us under another name. After digging and finding out who the company was, we rejected their business telling them why. The same happened with Hustler. We not only operate internally on Catholic values, but intend to build up our communities however we can.

What's one thing you'd like customers to know?
SELECTiON.COM offers a holistic solution to background screening needs and secure web application for employers to legally maintain confidential information. Our services rage from criminal reports to drug screen panels, from employment verifications to professional licensure. A story I like to tell is regarding the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. The State of Ohio mandates all schools performs fingerprint background checks on all faculty and staff. Fingerprints were the minimum. My father wagered with the chancellor that if 800 current employees/volunteers of Cincinnati were run and records were found, the archdiocese must reexamine its screening methods. Sure enough, of the 800, 22 returned with records which would have prevented them from being hired and subsequently led to their dismissal. One was a single, childless, middle-aged man who volunteered as the Tinman in an all-girls Catholic high school's production of The Wizard of Oz. This man was a registered sex offender with criminal record of assault on a minor. His records had previously been missed. That day, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati started performing their background checks with SELECTiON.COM. No child should be around tinmen, lions, scarecrows, or men behind the curtain.

Do you have a devotion to a particular saint?
St. Benedict of Nursia is often considered one of the founders of Europe and consequently western civilization. By creating a stable rule for monastics, he gave society at large a stabile foundation for religion and culture. While focused on the spiritual good of souls, he created an environment which allowed society to materially flourish and endure through immense struggles. As a lay oblate of the Abbey of San Benedetto in Monte located at the birthplace of St. Benedict (Norcia in Italian or Nursia in Latin), I consider my contributions to both my family and my business to facilitate first and foremost the spiritual good of souls and to also benefit society as an act of worship to God under the Rule of St. Benedict. We must pray and work. But above all, we must "prefer nothing whatsoever to the love of God."
